A picture a day project - day 23

Picture 23 - My fridge:

Fridge

An unusual subject, of sorts, for today. Everyone has a fridge (hopefully) for storing perishables and alcohol. Inside they are all generally the same - full of food and dimly lit. However, it is the outside of a fridge that is more interesting to look at. A fridge is the place where a proud parent will stick their childs first work of art for everyone to see, where bills that need to be paid are stuck so as to remind us of when they need paying, it acts as a message centre, a calendar and a photo album. If used to store food, then it’s living over expectations.

The outside of my fridge is mainly covered in magnets - free ones that people keep depositing in my mail box. Mostly from companies advertising their services but a few are novelty type business cards. All of the real estate agents in the area give me a calendar every year - it’s always a toss up as to which one I keep (usually the one that has 18 months worth of dates on it). I like the one the local council gives me because it tells me when to put out the recycling bin.

There is also a piece of unique artwork that was given to me by Rebekah. It is one of her daughter Jessica’s first ever paintings from her first year at kindergarten/daycare. I honestly don’t know what it is supposed to be, but it has a prime position just above the water dispenser.

Most of the freezer door is taken up by a white board that I use to write little reminders to myself of things I need to do or things I need to buy. People have come over and written all manner of rude things about me on it, but that’s to be expected knowing the people I know. Usually the main door will have at least one bill that needs paying (at the moment, I have three stuck there ready to go). I once tried putting them somewhere else rather than on the fridge and almost forgot to pay one of them so I went back to the original system that worked.

When I think about it, I really have a lot of stuff on the fridge door that is useless, but I bet if you went into any kitchen anywhere in the world, you’ll find a similar situation. The kitchen ends up being pretty much a common room a lot of the time, especially when guests are around, and the fridge is always going to be looked at so there is no better use for it than as a conversation starter.

What they really need to do is make the door a mirror so people have second thoughts about why they are opening it sometimes.

Later days.

Trivial fact number 177:- It was quite common for the men of Ancient Greece to exercise in public … naked - all part of them doing it Greek style I guess.
